GATTAIA BIANCO 2014
This is a celestially delightful and unendingly vibrant blend of mostly Chenin Blanc, whose cuttings are a selection massale from Loire natural wine legend Marc Angeli, with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. Michele’s biodynamic Gattaia cru is perched on Tuscany’s Mugello hills in a natural setting as untouched as can be imagined yet not far from Florence. The soils are muddy with clay, limestone and sandstones.The Chenin blanc sees a skin contact of 48 hours in cement during wild fermentation, while the other varieties are direct-pressed. It ages no less than 2 years in cement and 1 in the bottle. Deep minerality and ripe fruit dominate an exhilarating nose, while the palate is a veritable symphony of medlar fruit lightly grilled with lavender and grapefruit peel, lemongrass with smoked jackfruit, quince and salted butter.
