CLOÈ 2018
Cloè is not only a natural wine of heart-wrenching and absolute beauty, almost like a Mediterranean shimmering pink-crimson dusk squeezed in a bottle, but also a perfect paradigm of a rosè with an unmistakable and strong personality, nothing short of unforgettable. Crafted by the artful hands of Battistone and the rich volcanic soils of Pantelleria, Cloè is mainly Nerello Mascalese, more known in its Etna declination but exhibiting a unique character on the island of Pantelleria, with a tiny hint of Zibibbo. The vines, averaging 60 years of age, are worked biodynamically and the grapes spend a brief 1-2 days on the skins during wild fermentation, before aging 6-8 months in steel and chestnut and being then bottled with no fining, filtration or added SO2. It glows with a laser-like flamingo pink glow and deflagrate on the nose and palate with astounding freshness and marine depth: wild raspberries confit with pomelo zest, smoked pomegranate and sherbet of red currants and rose hip, candied capers with hibiscus and black tea.
