ANTHONY TORTUL

LA SORGA

If young maverick negociant/vigneron Anthony Tortul has become a natural wine legend it’s not by chance. The guy just makes some of the mind-bendingly exciting and lysergically majestic natural wines in France or anywhere for that matter. He began La Sorga in 2008 as a pure negociant in the village of Lias in Languedoc-Roussillon, sourcing organic or biodynamic grapes from old vineyards, over 40 parcels, which he also personally followed. From 2013 he also started to work vineyards of his own, always in accord to the purest vinnature ethos of organic or biodynamic farming, only wild fermentation, no fining or filtration or added SO2. He works with local grapes such as Mourvedre, Grenache and Carignan for reds and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Mauzac for white. Bearing striking and funky labels, his are wines of wild and uncontainable energy, extraordinary personality and astounding depth and power.
